The Texas A&M Regional Engineering Conference (TREC) committee under the Student Engineers council hosts a design competition for engineering students at Texas A&M. During the kick-off, the teams will receive a problem statement in industry or the engineering profession. Over the course of two weeks, they will build prototypes to solve this problem, and present their projects at the judging event. The purpose of this conference is to foster professionalism and enhance their design skills and interdisciplinary collaboration by allowing students to address a real-world issue. The focus of TREC 2021 will be public health awareness and disease/pandemic prevention given this topic’s prevalence in today’s society. Committee members develop the general concept and theme of the conference, design the competition, plan both the kick-off and judging event, and run each event day in its entirety.
This will be a 2-week long competition where teams of 3-4 students are given a problem statement based on a real-world challenge. During this time, teams must identify the most prominent issues regarding [the topic] provided by our keynote speaker and develop a prototype to help mediate the problem. At the end of the week, teams will present their findings, prototype, and business case to a panel of industry professionals and Texas A&M faculty.
